There are many creative, adorable, and classic hairstyles for little girls. You can do them at home and don't have to pay a fortune to obtain them. All you need is a ponytail holder and a young child and you are ready to style your way to a beautiful hairdo.
The thing you need to know before you attempt a child's hairstyle is that an elaborate hairstyle is often pointless for children. Kids love to run and play. They also have a habit of tugging at their hair. Hairstyles can be pulled down or messed up in no time.
You should also remember that a tight hairstyle is no fun for anyone, especially not small kids. Don't do the child's hair up too tightly, no matter how bad you want it to stay. Put your pinkie finger between the hair bow and the hair to make sure that it isn't too tight.
Keep in mind that you can personalize any basic hairstyle with ribbons and bows. Pick colors to match the child's outfit. Be sure to use hair ties that will compatible with the child's hair type and not easily pull it out. It is also a good idea to use inexpensive barrettes and bows so that if they are lost you aren't out a whole lot.
Ponytails are simple to do and they look good on girls of all ages. All you have to do is pull the hair to the top of the head and wrap a ponytail holder around it. There are several variations of the ponytail. You can pull it up high. (Pebbles Flintstone style) You can put it in the middle of the head. You can even make one at the back of the head so that it hangs down more over the child's back.
Buns are a very cool way to wear hair. This is a great style for active little girls with long hair. All you have to do is pull the hair up to the top of the head like you are making a ponytail. Twist the hair around until it forms a ball. Twist a ponytail holder around it. You can use barrettes to hold it into place.
Pigtails are pretty much the same as ponytails. You just need two instead of one. Make a ponytail on each side of the head, keeping them as even as possible. Secure them with ponytail holders and you are done.
Braids are another cute style for girls. There are many advanced forms of the braid but the basic one is the best for children. Just separate the hair into three sections. Twist the sections around each other in a braid and loop a ponytail holder around the braid to hold it together. Braids also work well in pigtail form.
A wrap is another cute hairstyle for little girls. Braid the hair on one side of the child's head. Then wrap the braid around the head to where the end of the braid is on the other side (or in the middle of the head depending on how long your child's hair is). This will look like a half circle and be very pretty. Just use a barrette or some bobby pins to secure the twist in place.
If all else fails, just let the child wear her hair down. This is cute for little girls but can sometimes get hot. Many little girls would actually prefer their hair down, though. Ask the child how they want to wear their hair and compromise to come up with the best style to suit them.
