Where writers find inspiration

sparking action in his brain that caused it to swell. Everyone else could talk to Him and all I could do was touch him. A Doctor showed me a printout of his brain activity, and told me that there was good news and bad news. The good news was that every part of his brain was active. The bad news was that none of it was what it was supposed to be. That night in church I rebelled against God and argued with Him. As I left the church to go to the hospital I cried. I had no idea the radio was on, but the song that came through to me had these words, "If you could only see me now, you would not ask for me to return." I knew then that God's will was indeed the best, so I prayed and asked God to do His will in this little boy's life. That night the Doctors began taking the monitoring instruments off of my little brother. His mother said that she had seen an angel enter his room. The next morning I received a call and the words I heard were, " Would you like to speak to Brandon?" He woke up, was breathing and able to talk, and wanted to talk to me. God's will was not about Brandon, it was about me and my relationship with my Heavenly Father. He just used Brandon's situation to move me closer to Him.

He was moved to a room where his bed was on the floor so he would not fall and hurt his head. I visited him in that room, and took my son with me. I crawled into his little bed with him and cried as I thanked God for this awesome miracle. Then something wonderful happened. My son tossed a little teddy bear to him and he caught it. Hand and eye coordination! He tossed it back to my son. They played for a while, and it came time for us to leave. I had taught him the "I love you" sign a few months earlier, and before the accident we used it each time we said goodbye. As my son and I walked away, we turned back and my little brother was holding up that "I Love You" sign, and my son and I both broke into tears of joy. Brandon had come back.

There were struggles, many of them, for this little boy. Family issues, ADD issues, and he struggled in school. He was not just like everyone else. He was slower to learn, and his social relationships were often kind of off the wall. When he got to high school he was basically on his own. I helped him as much as I could. He made his own way to school and was there almost every day. In his Junior year he asked me to teach him a song on the piano. I taught him "Marry Had A Little Lamb". Six months later he called me and asked me to come to the High School talent show. Of course I would go, but inside I felt that this might be a little embarrassing, for he was going to play the piano. I got there early, and when his time came to play I was a little nervous, but very proud. He was dressed in an awesome suit, sat down in front of that huge Grand piano, and began to play. He had made his own arrangement of "Heart and Soul," and played as if he had played piano all of his life. He used more keys than I knew were on a piano. Then the unexpected, a standing ovation. Cold chills covered my body. Awesome pride swelled up in my throat. I wondered how he had gotten this good in only six months.

He graduated the next year, and most people never expected that to happen. Then he enrolled in college, and now wants to pursue a music degree. That is where his heart is. He was an inspiration to me, and his story is often on my lips.

My life is full of such stories just waiting to be organized into an inspirational book. My inspiration comes from people like my Little Brother.
