What or who is the best teacher?

As we take our first breath, we begin to learn. Our first and best teachers are our parents. From them we learn what love feels like, how to get food and what to do to get a hug. Our parents teach immeasurably more than anyone else in our lives, and most of the learning is done before we are five.

Learning never ends. Some may say that life is our best teacher. I disagree. We teach ourselves with our life as a guide. We alone decide what we will learn from and what we will forget. Hurt, pain, anger, love and consequence are things we figure out as we pass through our life. Life is but a catalyst to the end lessons.

Our best teachers are the children in our lives. They possess all the innocence and the capacity to love, forgive, adjust and compromise that we, as adults, forget as we age. Watching a child play alone or with friends, illustrates all realationships we will ever have. Learning to share. Learning to protect and fight for our rights. Learning to let others go ahead of ourselves. For THESE are the most valuable lessons in life. Lessons that will take us farther than any Algebra or Sociology 101 every could. From children, we learn the most important lessons in life.
