Reflections: The human mind

There lies in the center of our consciousness, something that is too powerful to control which can command every part of our physiological faculty to obedience. They say that once you exercise such power, there is nothing in this world that you can not prevail.

It is no other than the HUMAN MIND.

Science defines it as our CNS or the central nervous system. Connected to our spinal cord and our peripheral nervous system, the human brain is the over-all coordinator and processor of facts and images that come before our eyes. Gathered information by our sensory nerves will be transmitted to our spinal cord for the brains to response.

Eventually after that we come up with reactions or responses to the images and events transmitted into our brains courtesy of the motor neurons acting as the forwarder of instructions from the brain to the rest of our body. Acting as the most important channel of all messages, the spinal cord is made up of nerves running up and down the spine providing the messages to and from the brain at every second.

There is no power above the human mind for it is the seat of intelligence controlling one's disposition and general attitude to life.

Sigmund Freud's theory on the id, ego and superego seeks to establish that the human mind operates based on factors within and outside itself. It also attempts to explain the complex reality of the brain, how the mind works and how it affects man's existence.

The works of great minds in the past which brought to forth amazing discoveries on science, math and human behavior only prove that the human mind is a powerful instrument that could predict and eventually control man's destiny.

Pathology, a science of psychology that deals with mental diseases institutionalizes the existence of cases that the human mind is capable of: destroying the normal, and making man maladaptive to the changes in his life.

LIFE AS A STRESSOR

We all react to whatever that can move us to act. Whether negative or positive, the actions of man will determine greatly his ability to adapt to the stressors that life brings.

Be not surprised with the rising cases of suicide for this shows the fact that if a man gives up a fight for life, he will kill himself. What drives him to do that is a case to case basis, but usually, it is the pressures that he could no longer contain.

Marital separation, work-related problems, extreme poverty, feeling of desolation, hopelessness and other feelings that stifle his logical capabilities would lead him to end
