As a published author, I had a website and a blog. Given the fact that I am truly a struggling writer, maintaining a website didn't come easy. I had to pay for a domain name, a web host, and, for me, I had a web designer that I was paying yearly.
I showcased my work, offered free gifts with the purchase of my book, and provided important links that associated with the book's subject. No one bought the book directly from my website. Everyone went where they were familiar with: major online bookstores.
Having a blog, to me, is more personal. Readers have the option to comment and the blog owner has the option to hide the comment link. Blogs are a great communication tool to have when working with others. In addition, blogs are free which allows a struggling business owner to showcase their work without worrying about incoming funds.
When it comes to websites and blogs, one thing stands clear; it's not the look of the site that gets you to earn money, it's the information and product that is provided within your site.
If you truly compare a website with a blog, although the format may be different, the website and blog owners mission is the same. To sell their product and provide valuable information. It's no different than asking is writing for an e-zine or magazine better? No matter what you choose, your writing is being showcased.
Everyone tends to worry about the look and the style of their blog and website. It becomes a status issue more than becoming a successful business owner. In fact, no one can tell the difference between a website and a blog because of the tools that are provided with blogs. Today, most blogs look so professional that the only way I could tell is looking at the URL.
When we own a business, sell a product, and work to become successful, it's about our customers and readers. We provide an outlet for others to receive information, education, and to find a product that fits their needs.
With this, a blog can fulfill all these needs. With the proper html code and a URL, a blog can provide the same look as a website. In fact, a blog owner can register their blog URL with a domain company and receive a URL with the ending .com.
It's more about the individual's mission. Why do they want a website or blog? Can they meet their needs with either one? Does it matter which one they have? Because in the end, your personality will shine through those sites, your mission will be clear, and the only one selling that product is you, not the site you chose.
