Is overcrowding really a problem in UK prisons

by Sharon Cooke

Created on: August 19, 2008

i have many worries , but i can catagorically state, that the overcrowding in our prisons, is not one of them, overcrowded or not the prisoners in this country, seem to have it made, three meals a day,
they can watch the tv, or read books, play ping-pong, and lots of other things, oh, and keep warm, no worry about getting hypothermia then,
pity.. our old age pensioners, who probaly fought to keep this country free

are dying from the cold in the winter, and can,t afford decent food, to feed themselves with.
what a terrible state to get in.
perhaps they should all stop paying the poll tax, then they could go in and get looked after abit better,
this subject makes my blood boil. why has england turned into such a nanny state,
everything is focused on the perpetrators of crime, and not the victims,
i would,nt like ti think how much it costs the tax payer to keep each prisoner in there, whilst we,re all out here struggling, getting a wage that does,nt now cover all the bills,
perhaps i have a rather tarnished veiw of prisoners,
my brother was murdered 32 years ago, the jury , of 12 ordinary people beleived his murder was,nt planned, so he got 8 years for manslaughter.
he went to an open prison, out after 3 years, how many normal mums, or dads think thats right, i would have only been to pleased to let him rot in jail, overcrowded or not
i think that other countries have got it right, with having the death penalty, for extreme cases.
what with all the dna testing, ect there should not be any mistakes made.
perhaps if the goverment got their fingers out and did something for a change something could be done,
perhaps altering the dickensian sentencing levi,s would help.
with the amount of jobless at the moment surely if the crime is minimal, petty crime, perhaps, get them out into the public arena, cleaning up the streets. helping the elderly, supervised, of course.
there are many things that need to be done, to clean up this country, use them for it, free up some of the cells, give them , courses to go on, to help them get work, or stop any benifits that they get.
and if they are terrorists, or people that do anything to children, old or vunerable people, then get rid,
we do not need them on our planet, they are not even animals, animals are not that wicked,
and no, they do not deserve human rights, they forfeit that when they take human life, they do not just take away one persons live, they take the whole familys.
