Poetry: The future

by Mariana Somerset

Created on: August 19, 2008

She gazes upon a dreary city
Lampposts line faded streets
Crowds of people drift through
Waves of unforgiving concrete

Stars twinkle as they hang in the sky
A cold wind carries tattered leaves
Raindrops fall down to the earth
Soaking through warm jacket sleeves

She glances at the wisps of clouds
Wandering carelessly through the skies
Her future lies beyond the horizon
An unyielding passion kindles in her eyes

Beyond city limits lies a much brighter future
A splendid destiny she is meant to fulfill
Her grand fate is written among luminous stars
Ebbing as twilight creeps across the horizon
And the bright morning sun peaks above a fertile hill
