Poetry: Love within

by Mariana Somerset

Created on: August 19, 2008

My dearest love,
I'm afraid that I cannot marry you now,
But please, I beg of you, listen to me:
I have no business marrying my fiance
I know this to be true.
I do not love him, nor could I
Ever love him as much as you.
My love for him is finite;
Time will surely take its toll
And my love for him will surely die
Like foliage in the woods.
But my love for you it is eternal.
It shall never die nor dwindle.
You are always on mind,
Always the core of my thoughts,
The focus of my world,
The center of my universe
You are more myself than I.
But, my love, if we were to marry,
We would be but beggars
In an unforgiving world.
I cannot marry you now.
But surely, my love for you
Will never die.
Always remember that
My heart belongs to you.
If every creature on this earth
Were to pass away,
Except for you and I,
I would still be fulfilled.
We are one in the same.
