"A Taste of Perfect Pain"
A father watches his daughter first open her eyes.
A mother's heart breaks to hear her injured son's cries.
A parent's pure joy when a child learns truth;
And the frustration to see her struggle through youth
Then, a new mother's joy is seasoned with sorrow
When she thinks of the girl who'll give up her child tomorrow.
How much more must God, in all his perfections
Feel emotion more deeply, compounded by millions?
His boundless perfection, infinite love, endless sighs
Do not our pain and our glory both dampen Holy eyes?
The God of creation, maker of stars land and ocean
Permits us to sample some God-like emotion.
Our children, His children; compassion all the same
The God of creation knows each of us by name
Yet, ours is but a taste of His perfect pain.
