If you are asking the question, "Am I a flakey employee?" There is a good chance that the shoe might fit.

Let's discuss flaky for a minute. There are definitely two kinds of flakey. There is the flakey pie crust that has many layers and maybe is a little different. There's the flakey piece of equipment that is broken and never works correctly. One kind of flakey can be tolerated at the work and the other kind can not.

So in true Jeff Foxworthy tradition flakey in bad way may turn out to look like this:

You might be a flake at work if you are always on your very last written warning.

You might be a flake at work if you receive more than 5 texts an hour.

You might be a flake at work if you really believe none of the rules apply to you.

You might be a flake at work if you believe you are the boss' favorite.

You might be a flake at work if you surf the Internet for more than five minutes at lunch time.

You might be a flake at work if you have never turned in a project on time.

You might be a flake at work if you join in other's conversations.

You might be a flake at work if your annual review is always "almost firedl".

And now, what about those flake's at work that are different and multi leveled, but contribute to the business.

You might be a flake at work if you dress to match every theme.

You might be a flake at work if your ideas are always "outside the box."

You might be a flake at work if you really believe everyone loves your burnt cookies.

You might be a flake at work if you thought the associate of the month parking spot belonged to anyone who worked here for a month and it was empty when you arrived.

You might be a flake at work if you have dark hair and everyone calls you blondie.

You might be a flake at work if everyone else moves to the other side of the room when you walk in.

You might be a flake at work if someone tells you that your laugh sounds like "horseshack".

You might be a flake at work if you know who Jeff Foxworthy is and your co-workers would read a list and know who you meant.

Really it takes all kinds of people to make an interesting and efficient work place. A little bit of flakey-ness may teach tolerance and diversity. Who could argue that more tolerance in the world we live and work in would be a bad thing?

So here's the bottom line. If you are a flakey employee, strive to become a good flake, like the pie crust. If you can't, don't worry too much because soon you will be looking for a whole new job where you can start over and be whoever you want to be.
