negative situation. There is a difference between being the life and soul of the party and being the village idiot. A flaky person can be a loveable person who serves to brighten up a dreary place and keep the atmosphere light and friendly. It really is a question of balance.
Another side to being the flaky employee within the business is that it could be a barrier between you and your fellow employees. Perhaps they do not see you as the loveable rogue who keeps the atmosphere light around the workplace. Perhaps they see you more as a nuisance who irritates them and proves to be nothing but a distraction as they try to get on with the work at hand. Hopefully if you are the flaky employee, you will see the need to strike the balance as you interact with your workmates, bringing some lightheartedness to the proceedings without simply annoying the people around you.
Flakiness in the workplace can be plus or a minus depending on how others react to your quirky personality. Too many workplaces are simply boring and tedious for those who work there every day and perhaps the only bright spot is the pleasure they derive from their flaky workmate. We all like people with personality who add something and make us laugh. Being an oddity may not sound very complimentary but in many ways it just means you are a unique individual with the kind of personality others find attractive. No need to worry if you are the flaky employee, provided your employer and fellow workers do not suffer as a consequence but rather find that you enrich their working life in a positive way.
