Poetry: School

I can't believe

it's my first day of school.

Thanks for the new clothes Mom,

I think they're so cool.

Get into the car

excited with crazy nerves,

head down the street

and around a few curves.

Parked outside,

looking around

at all of those kids

going school ward bound.

Out of the car

Mom and I jump,

a little bit scared,

in my throat there's a lump.

Mom grabs my bag

and takes my hand,

today is finally the day

in the schoolyard I stand.

We're inside the classroom,

I take off my shoes

and put on my new ones,

they have on them blues clues.

Mom gives me a big hug

with a tear in her eye,

"Have a good day honey,

I love you, good-bye.

I'll see you after school,

make sure you take care.

When I pick you up

I'll be standing right there."

She points to a clock

hanging on the wall

directly outside

of the door in the hall.

One more hug

and a quick little kiss,

this is my first day of school,

something I would never miss.
