your eyes were timeless,
mirroring my soul.
you never said you wanted me;
your eyes another tale told.
it was your gaze that made me turn,
around in the grocery aisle;
that first time you stared at me
made me think of you awhile-
your eyes would lock with mine,
anywhere that we would meet;
and the world around us went away
like magic, what a feat-
your eyes in anger flashed-
when i had to change my life;
in my storm your ship had crashed,
when i became his wife.
but i knew i couldn't have you
i knew it couldn't be
to your promises, you stayed true
the one left behind was me.
though we never once have kissed,
though I live alone, again;
all these years it was you I missed;
my impossible, to-be-with, friend.
and if you ever read this poem,
what i wrote here is true.
and if you're ever near my home,
the light's always on for you.
