"Imprints in Time"
When I teach you,
Who is listening?
As I live my life,
Who is watching?
I touch countless others;
Generations unseen,
In the lessons I'm living
And in the life that I teach.
An impressionable mind
For me to impress
What far-distant child
Will feel my caress?
The words that I say
Imprinted in time.
Your sons and their daughters
Shall speak these words of mine.
Such a sobering thought:
My mistakes etched in time,
And that my triumphs inspire
Those greater than I.
My thoughts
My humor
My words
And my strife
All are imprints on others;
Muffled echoes of my life.
These imprints on generations unseen;
In them, a silent spark of me.
Perhaps I should guard
All that I say.
And measure my touch
On you today,
And forget not all of you
Generations away.
