If you are going to successfully launch a new business while still maintaining your original full time employment (until your new business is stable, of course) you must learn to manage your time wisely.
It's really simply to avoid wasting time and learning to use your precious free moments efficiently in order to make the biggest profit possible. If you have started a new business, get used to overtime. It takes a little extra time to learn the ins and outs of a new business. Here are some tips that should help:
1. Write down every mistake you make and document what you learn. This will help deter you from repeating mistakes in the future and wasting time re-learning lessons that should have already been absorbed.
2. Carry "advertisements" with you at all times. Always, always, always carry your business cards with you. If you can't hand them out to people individually, leave them out at parties, social functions, luncheons, and even with your tip at every single restaurant you visit. This can save you time and money on special advertising campaigns when you are first starting out.
3. If you are still working another job to pay the bills until your business is up and running, use your lunch break and even coffee breaks to sit down and work on your business plan. Not only will this help with your new venture, but it will help you stay focused and excited, which will keep you more alert at your current job after these leisurely breaks. You don't have time for leisure, anyhow....you're trying to become a successful business person.
4. Learn to accept that you will be "working" your business 24/7. You will have no breaks to begin with if you want to succeed. You should be constantly in "work" mode. Remember that most small businesses become "not so small" businesses by word of mouth, so be ready to bring up your new adventure in every single conversation.
5. Sit down every day and write down your most important goals, starting with the one you are least looking forward to. Get your least favorite activities done first, and continue down the list until you are done. Don't sop until you are finished with them all, if at all possible. If you tell yourself that you won't go to lunch until all of your tasks are completed, you'll get them done much faster. Another little tip...it isn't wise to have more than about 6 goals a day originally. Anything more is probably not going to get done.
Remember to stay focused! Good luck!
