New York, New York everybody comes to this town! From Count Dracula to King Kong New York City attracts them all. You'll always find fun and adventure in New York City to suit every taste or interest. Whether you want to take in a Broadway show, spend the day shopping in the finest stores in the country or relax and enjoy the beauty of a museum you'll find it here. New York City is always buzzing with activity.
If you've only got one day to enjoy the sights and sounds of New York City, you'll want to try to plan out your trip itinerary in advance. It's best to buy a city street map of New York to help you get around and avoid wasting time that could be spent enjoying the city. Also it's a good idea to purchase a MetroCard 1 Day Fun Pass, which cost about $7.50 USD. The Fun Pass provides individual unlimited travel on the New York City subway and bus system.
Over 12 Million people immigrated to America by way of Ellis Island and if you're visiting the "Big Apple," for the first time you'll want to visit the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. You may even discover that some of your ancestors passed through on their way to a new world. And what trip to New York would be complete without visiting Lady Liberty herself. To visit these sites, you'll have to travel by ferry, but that will prove to be a step back into history if you consider you'll be traveling back into New York City the same way all of those hopeful immigrates did.
From Ellis Island travel to Central Park and enjoy the beauty of the city all around you or take a free guided tour. You can experience formal walking paths or take a turn through the Ramble, the wild and woodsy area of Central Park.
After a relaxing walk you can stroll onto 5th Avenue, where you'll find the finest shopping that New York City has to offer. 5th Avenue has something for ever taste, stores like Louis Vuitton, Bergdorf Goodman, Prada, Bloomingdale's and Saks Fifth Avenue Location for luxury clothing, accessories and fragrances. If you have a special someone in your life who simply loves jewelry then a visit to Tiffany & Co., and Harry Winston should be on your list of must visit 5th Avenues stores. If you have a love for toys, consider American Girl Place, FAO Schwarz and the World of Disney Store. There are a score of other excellent places to shop along 5th Avenue. There are even stores catering to the adult shopper, like Purple Passion, located within a few blocks of 5th Avenue.
What visit to New York City would be complete without taking in a show on Broadway? Luckily for the day traveler into the city, the theaters usually offer matinee performances typically at 2 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays. If you want to experience some of the local culture, shops and dining in a more relaxed and less expensive area, try taking in an Off-Broadway show.
There are a large number of museums in New York City and you're certain to find one you'll enjoy. The American Museum of Natural History is one of the most famous tourist attractions in New York City. The Forbes Magazine Galleries houses a collection of 12,000 toy soldiers, 12 Faberg'e Imperial Easter Eggs and a large number of Presidential papers and other documents. New York City is even the home of the Museum of Sex.
