Advantages of rural life

When considering living in a rural community there are several things that come to mind. You must understand that jobs are limited so it is best if you are lucky enough to have a job that doesn't require you be in the office everyday. Being a consultant is business that requires travel is good. You are on the road most of the time going from client to client, as a rule of thumb.

With the internet playing a large part in today's business world it is more feasible to live in a rural community. Most of your work can be done online; however, from time to time you will have to make an appearance in the home office. There are also more jobs becoming available online that do not require travel. The biggest set back of these type of jobs is you must be disciplined and a self starter.

More companies are hiring data entry persons that can work exclusively from home online. The medical field is more open to outsourcing their billing so that is a real possibility. Once you understand that living in a rural area you will have to find a job that allows you to do most, if not all, of your work from home.

The advantages of rural life can be wonderful. In a small town most everybody knows everybody and believe me that has some tremendous advantages. The schools tend not to be overcrowded so your children get more one on one help due to smaller classes. There is a lot to be said for smaller classrooms. I speak from personal experience. My three children have all gone to a small school all their lives and I must say it has helped them excel. My oldest graduated second in her class last year and received enough scholarships to pay for her school totally, with five dollars left over. My second oldest is a senior this year and he will graduate first in his class and he is being recruited by some of the best schools in the country, not just a couple of them, many top schools are trying their best to get him to go to their school.

My family likes very much the small town life. We have good friends here and it is a tight community. One advantage is if you forget to lock your doors at night you probably won't have a problem with someone breaking into your home. We tend to watch out for each other. I am not saying this is Mayberry by any means, but it is peaceful and we do not have to deal with traffic and pollution.

It is not all roses by any means. For example, the grocery store is 35 miles away so you learn to make a list, and with gas prices what they are, you try your best to limit those trips to town. We have very few fast food restaurants around close by, which I consider a blessing, home cooking is always better.

We are not that isolated because we can be in Houston Texas in about three hours or so from here. I have to tell you the main reason we moved here, and I think you may agree. We lived in Austin Texas and the year before my oldest was to start school a third grade kid shot and killed another kid in the very school that my children were going to be in. Don't get me wrong violence is everywhere but in our little town there has never been a school shooting. Call me crazy if you like, but I didn't have children to send them to school only to be in danger of possibly being shot.
Rural life isn't for everyone, and for that we are glad. If everyone moved here then we would have all the problems associated with living in a large city. However if you are looking for a peaceful place to raise a family I highly recommend the small town life. It has been very good to us and I don't see myself ever living in a large city again.
