Big Bang or Big Man: How in the heck did we get here?

Big Bang

by Eric J Taylor

To analyse and understand the history of Homo Sapiens upon this planet is a difficult topic. None of us were there to watch either the start of the species or our development, depending on which side of the argument that your believe.

The topic "Big Bang or Big Man" is really another way of saying did our species evolve or were we created by something superior. My personal belief is that the evolution concept is the only practical option to believe.

There are various religions on this planet that are supported by many millions of people. If we are to believe that one of these religions is correct, we must reject the others. One may argue that some of the religions are related, with the Islamic religion being a derivation of Christianity, which itself is a derivation of Judaism. Recorded history also shows that that religion is a derivation of an earlier one. But what of the other religions of the world? Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism. Are they simply to be regarded as a myth?

As a child, I was raised within a Christian church and taught the beliefs of that religion, including the concept of God creating Adam and Eve. We were taught that the universe was created in 6 days, including the Earth, the stars and planets and all life upon this planet. What the teachings did not reveal was who or what created the creator. The logical conclusion to this is that God has always existed, but there was noting else and at some time, after eons of nothing, everything else was created in 6 days.

Now that I am an adult, I have rejected the concept of God, as I have not been able to accept the creation theory mentioned above. If the concept of creationism is correct, who created God? No religion has supplied that answer to me. I see the creation of the various religions of the world as the means people attempting to explain things that they could not, with the knowledge they had at that time. I also believe it was a means of placing control and philosophies of life upon the people.

Whether the Universe was formed by a "Big Bang" is outside my knowledge. I am aware that a number of scientists have put this theory forward, but I am not in a position to either confirm or disprove that theory. This theory is put forward with the knowledge that it is a theory. One day in the future it may be proved or disproved, but it is accepted as a theory. In my mind, the creationist theory has been disproved.
