Poetry: Guitars

by Jon Coe

Created on: August 17, 2008

Shaped with curves, I slowly caress
these strings, that I gently address
Sitting upon my knee, so light
your resinate body, soothes this night

Each string, finely stretched and tuned
chords in harmony, fingers groomed
This neck, so slender and fretted fine
strumming with rhythm, keeping time

Holding you, like two lovers on a boat
entwined as one, we embrace each note
From my mind, I speak, telepathically
floating on this deep, and calm blue sea

Each song I play, takes us gently away
to a time and place, that makes our day
Without this instrument, this humble guitar
I would not reach, my fulfilling star

Bending notes, and nailing riffs
this guitar of rosewood, surely lifts
Light and tight, easy to transport
machine heads oiled, strings contort

My fingers run across these thighs
sometimes leading to, surprise
These golden notes, sometimes blue
echo from my heart, through only you

So take me down, my crossroads await
the devil lies, disguised, with bait
But I will not sell my soul, to play
an instrument, that lifts me up, this way
