Prayer Finding The Heart's True Home by Richard J. Foster. In a chapter on Healing Prayer Foster talks about Four Straight forward steps to healing prayer.
Step #1 We listen. Foster calls this the "discernment step." We listen to what people are saying and to what they are asking for and what they need. We also listen to hear the still small voice of God and see what He is telling us what to do and how to proceed.
Step #2 We ask God. Foster calls this "the faith step". We ask plainly to heal. We take Him at His Word and plead His promises.
Step #3 We believe. Foster says this is "the assurance step" We know God wants to pray .He asks us to pray and he assures us that He will answer us. For example 1 John 5: 14-15 says "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will He hears us. And if we know that He hears us whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions we have asked of Him. "
Step #4 We thank God. Foster calls this the "gratitude step". God wants to answer our prayers, and He is most pleased when we express our thanksgiving to Him. Philippians 4: 6 counsels us "Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God."
The Lord is the One who heals! May He use us to be conduits of His healing to others.
