A stationary bicycle is an exercise device that usually consists of a seat, pedals and handlebars that resembles a bicycle but has no real moving tires. An exercise bike provides a great cardiovascular workout and is an excellent calorie burner. This machine is ideal for people with back problems due to its low impact. Exercise bikes are very durable and provide a safe and easy workout. There are many types and styles to choose from. Most come equipped with calorie counting/ heart rate technology so that you can track your progress.
The benefit of using an exercise bicycle instead of a normal bike is that you can workout in the comfort of your own home or office. You can watch television or listen to music while you are exercising.
Important things to consider when purchasing an exercise bicycle:
Seating is important as you want to be positioned correctly when exercising on this machine. Make sure that the saddle has different positions so that you can reach the handlebars and foot pedals comfortably.
Resistance is essential. As you continue to work out, you will find that you will want different settings to push your strength.
Stability is key. You want to purchase a machine that is steady. You do not want a machine that tips easily or moves and sways. Your exercise bike should be on the heavy side and not move when you get on it.
Comfort is a must. A machine that is uncomfortable or painful will result in you not using it again.
Noise is crucial. Try to find a machine that has minimal noise. If you are watching TV or listening to the radio you want to be able to hear it over your machine.
Size of machine is important. There are many sizes to choose from when it comes to stationary bikes. There are mini stationary bikes as well as top of the line gigantic fully equipped bikes. Find one that fits your space.
Safety is the most critical factor when buying an exercise bike. Make sure that the flywheel and all moving parts are covered. Your body can get easily pinched. If you have little kids their fingers can get pinched in the flywheel as well.
Most importantly, when buying a new stationary bike, TEST it out in the store. Get on it and use it like you would if you were at home. Check for all of the features listed above and take it for a test drive! When you have chosen the perfect bike your heart and waistline will thank you.
