When you read a book by Dean Koontz you know you're going to meet great characters. The good guys are human, humble, and have great friends. One of the great friends is usually a dog. Christopher Snow in Fear Nothing has all that and more.
Born with a rare affliction shared by only a thousand other people, 28 year old Chris Snow is vulnerable to light. Any exposure to the sun, lights, and even the light from the television can blind him, cause cancer, and kill him. In fact, most people who have this disorder die very young. Chris can only go outside at night, and knows the night life of Moonlight Bay like no one else. Those who care about Chris accept him unconditionally, keep candles handy for his visits, and are prepared to kill to protect him.
When his father dies and Chris discovers someone switching his body with that of a homeless vagrant only two years after his mother died, a whirlwind adventure begins. A frantic call from a friend about rhesus monkeys results in her murder. This leads Chris, his best friend, his girlfriend, and his dog in a race through the night looking for answers to solve the mystery in Moonlight Bay that leads them to bad guys, government conspiracy, and genetic experiments gone wrong. And the only thing Dean Koontz does better than write great characters is write unique adventures, unforgettable enemies, and new twists on stories concerning genetics, disease, and people in power turning bad.
Fear Nothing, written in the first person, is followed by Seize the Night, which continues the story of Christopher Snow, his best friend Bobby, his late night disc jockey girlfriend Sasha, and his beer drinking dog Orson. Each book can stand on its own, but together they form an epic adventure that readers don't want to see come to an end. The suspense and the humor in Fear Nothing combined with the feelings readers develop for Christopher and his friends. You'll want to laugh, you'll want to cry, and you'll start looking at the world around you in a different way.
Dean Koontz brings a similar theme to Fear nothing as he did in his book Watchers, The animals are showing human-like traits, while some of Moonlight Bay's citizens are 'becoming'-but Chris and his friends aren't sure what they're becoming. With a fierce loyalty and an endearing sense of humor, Christopher and his friends rush headlong into adventure, and their biggest vulnerability is their love for each other.
The questions left at the end of Fear Nothing are answered by Seize the Night. The questions left at the end of Seize the Night remain, leaving readers with another question. Where is the third installment of the Christoper Snow series? We've been waiting for a long time.
