Online learning: Clicking your way to a better job
There is a wide selection of on-line courses available to anyone looking to advance their career. The list of courses in growing steadily and includes everything from early childhood education to advanced computer training.
ADVANTAGES OF TAKING COURSES ONLINE:
The biggest advantage to on-line learning is the convenience. You can learn a new skill without ever having to leave the comfort of your home or get showered and dressed. You can sit in front of your computer in your housecoat and absorb new knowledge to your heart's content. In addition, you don't have to spend money on gasoline or bus fare. There's also no need to pack a bag lunch.
With an online course, you can study at your own pace; if you get tired, you can take a break and come back fresh at another time.
Another major advantage to online learning is that you don't have to take any time off work and, therefore, you don't lose any income.
Another plus to on-line courses is that they can be completed in a shorter period of time than the same courses offered in the traditional classroom format. If you work steadily and stick with a regular schedule, you could potentially complete a normally three-month course in as little as one month.
DISADVANTAGES OF TAKING COURSES ONLINE
One disadvantage to taking courses online is that you don't get the same level of accountability that you do with set class times. It might be easy for some people to let six months go by without even turning on the computer. However, if the people in your life are supportive and you are able to handle distractions, this shouldn't happen.
Another disadvantage to on-line learning is that group projects are usually not possible. Group projects in the traditional classroom setting provide an opportunity to make connections and develop friendships with people in the same line of work.
UNIVERSITY CREDIT UNDERGRADUATE COURSES AND FEES:
Management-related University-credit courses include introduction to marketing', corporate communication', and interpersonal communications in management. If your career goals include applying for upper-level management positions, any of these courses would look great on your resume and would also help you to succeed in your new position.
Basic and advanced University credit computer courses are also available online. Taking courses such as introduction to computer programming, introduction to web programming', and website technology' would equip you with the skills
