Starting a family daycare business in your home

many local thrift stores and yard sales, still in decent condition.

Make sure you plan meals ahead. Be aware of important allergies that children have and avoid items that can make kids sick, hyperactive, or just intolerable. Serve healthy and nutritious items. Keep plenty of snacks on hand and maintain an eating schedule that everyone will be happy with.

Remember that it isn't enough to just give a child a toy or sit them in front of a television. You should establish a routine for your program. Set up a curriculum full of fun daily activities that all children can enjoy. Play games together, do craft projects, read stories, or learn fun little lessons. Tutor older children with homework or teach smaller children the alphabet. Create your schedule around your kids and then stick to it.

Now that you have all your corners covered, you need to market your business. Put the word out there and draw customers in. Come up with a catchy title for your daycare and an appropriate slogan that will go with it. Advertise on public television, local papers, community boards, pediatrician's offices, schools, and anywhere else that parents are sure to notice.

Remember that things don't always go as planned. You may not be booked your first week in business. The key is to become established and be able to provide references as needed. If things don't work the way you originally set them up, be willing to be flexible. Making small changes as needed will make a big difference in the long run.

Above all else, be attentive, caring and supportive. Be a good care-provider. Don't neglect the children. Interact with them on a daily basis. Be someone you would trust to care for your kids. The rest will all fall into place.
