To be frankly honest, I was really disappointed in the game. I really did not like the game too much because of all the repetition that is involved, and the graphics were not all that good. It was okay at first, but then it got very boring very quickly for me. I did not even finish the free trial, but I am pretty sure that I had played for about forty-five minutes.
The characters in the game were cheesy and had very little personality traits. The colors were just so-so. I was expecting more oranges, greens, blues, yellows, reds, and white, the basic colors I believe that need to make up a tropical portrait. The game did not look like it had any life to it. No excitement can be seen. I believe that sound also has an important factor in the game. It keeps our senses alert, but this game was almost dead to any sound at all. I was expecting sounds of the ocean, like waves crashing onto the shoreline. The flashing of the icons on the huts was okay, but maybe if we heard someone say "hello" every time someone needed something that would bring a little bit more to the game. Being that this was supposed to take place on an island, a few sea gulls flying here and there would have been awesome. A couple of crabs running on the beach would have been fun as well. It almost looked like a jungle instead of an island because there were just too many palm trees. It would make a good picture for a children's puzzle though. The bungalows looked like tribal huts or something of that nature.
The name, Tropical Mania, does not describe this game in my own personal opinion. I might have called it "Jungle Resort" or something. When I think of the word Mania, I think of something crazy, exciting, fun, and not boring, dull, and blah. The idea of the game play is good, but maybe it could be executed differently. Enhance the graphics to three dimensional, take away some of the palm trees, or add things like seashells, drift wood, and a bonfire.
The one thing that I like was the ratings on how someone did in a particular level. It helped to encourage me to do better the next level. It reminded me of the Olympics with the gold, silver, and bronze stars. That added a little sense of competition to the game.
My rating on this game would be 1.5 stars. I just was not impressed with this game. Would I buy the game? No. The game play was just too simple to follow and there are not enough upgrades. There are plenty other more exciting games that I would rather buy.
