"How?" I asked.

"Simple," he said.
That's all.

Is the end of the best thing
I've ever had
Really such a simple thing?

Sure, there had to be and end.
It was obvious from the beginning.
There was no chance anything good
Would have come from it.

Sure, my life was crashing down around me.
Anyone could see that she was the cause,
That it was she who was tearing me down.
And simply because of that one little thing.
Just one thing.

No, it's not so simple.
This sort of end does not just come unannounced.
From the beginning, anyone could see that
Though the best feelings of my life were
Received through her, it was not the best for me.
Not in the least.

Yet I still can scarcely believe that such a beautiful thing
Is now gone as quickly as it arrived.
The best times of my life, simply taken away.
All because of one tiny thing.
A thing barely noticable.

Thinking back on it now, I can see that maybe it was important-
Maybe it was a bigger thing than I thought.
Now that it's done, I see what it was,
Why it was so "simple".

It wasn't anything I had done.
It wasn't anything she had planned.
It was simply this:

"I don't love you anymore" she said.
That's all.
