It may be a decision that has been forthcoming for months or one that is made in haste, but whatever your reasons are for leaving a job it's important as it reflects not only yourself but the industry and workplace in which you work.
To some a job may be a means of paying the bills, however to others it is another step in their choice of career. Regardless of career choice or a means of paying the bills, we only live once and should not subject ourselves to something that makes us feel unsatisfactory on a personal level, one that does not improve our skills and a career that makes you unhappy.
Following are some possible reasons why someone may choose to leave their current job.
Unsatisfactory pay
Costs of living continue to rise which includes mortgage and rental payments, food to feed our families and fuel to get us from one place to another. But most people find that their income barely covers the costs of these essentials. When you're barely keeping your head above water, it may be time to look for a job that may pay better.
Unsatisfactory pay may not only be your income, but may also include certain benefits such as leave loading and penalties for overtime and compensation for being on call.
No career advancement
Working your way up the ladder in your chosen career means more experience and more pay. Most companies who have good employment records will advertise and hire from within so current employees have the opportunity to apply for the position.
Advancement within a career is very important for an individuals self esteem, their future career and to eliminate boredom and hence, job dissatisfaction.
No recognition or appreciation
Some people are great at their jobs and many put in above and beyond what is expected of them. When you're not recognized for your efforts or your skill, coming to work can become extremely disheartening.
Personality clashes and bullying
If you're ever to come across a more diverse group of people, those you may not normally associate with, it is in the workplace. We spend a lot of time at work and achieving the right balance of personalities can be difficult to achieve. The workplace should have processes in place to deal with inner co-worker conflict and should be able to provide resolutions for problems that may occur.
Bullying in the workplace exists. If you find yourself in an environment that is at times volatile, stressful and makes you unhappy, then leaving is usually the only way to solve the issue.
