Michael Jordan is perhaps one of the greatest basketball players of all-time. How it can be claimed that he killed the game of basketball is just mind-boggling. It just makes no sense. By saying that, it would be like saying Hulk Hogan killed professional wrestling by being the biggest name in the wrestling world at that time. That is also saying someone like Babe Ruth killed the game of baseball with his Home Run hitting.
It is very hard to really see how he truly killed the game because if you are recognized by anyone who doesn't even watch basketball, it says a lot about a person. Look back to the past, there were other stars before him such as Larry Bird and Magic Johnson for example. They didn't kill the game but enhanced it as well bringing it up in popularity and Jordan did the same thing.
For those who say he killed the game really must have hated Jordan because he was apart of those Chicago Bulls teams that beat everybody along the way. Here is a guy who was an influence on many of the NBA players today and considered a role model for the way he played. Guys like D-Wade or LeBron James don't go out of their way to bash him but to credit him.
It is true about him being very marketable and that is just the way it is on that. Jordan didn't harm the game but made it more popular than it had ever been. It would be like saying the bar had been set and no one is going to be able to reach it.
If that's the logic being used, then it makes no sense whatsoever.
The only thing Michael Jordan did wrong during his time was get involved in gambling making that mistake.
He has owned up to it but has never actually let it ruin his own family. That is the one thing he did but he was able to repair his image.
As far as setting a bar that is very high in the world of basketball, it may be impossible to reach but it did not kill the game. If it did, would it still be around? It looks like it still breathing even in the post-Jordan Era. There are other players as well that are playing now in a different Era. There are guys like Kobe Bryant still out there as he had been anointed at one point the top star of the NBA. Then it became LeBron James though in reality, it probably is Dwayne Wade, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant as the three faces of the league.
In final conclusion, it wasn't Michael Jordan that killed the game as it is still alive and well.
It just simply sounds like a bunch of people that hate Michael Jordan want to claim that he killed it and nothing more.
