Essays: Where does your inspiration come from?

Where does your inspiration come from?

I find inspiration deep down in the pit of my stomach. It comes from an indomitable will that says " I will not be beat! I will not be vanquished. Yes, I will comeback!"

I draw on my memories of inspiration and experiences I had as a youngster and young man.

Make no mistake, I have been hurt and vulnerable several times in my life. But whenever I get into this terrible situation, I become all holy heck on wheels. You don't want to be around me when I am hurting badly. Why? Because, I am aiming to really kick some butt. "Kill Bill", you know what I mean?

Two years ago, I finished up with colon cancer surgery and was immediately given chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

Shortly thereafter, I found myself lying in a hospital bed, being treated for radiation poisoning for eighteen days and suffering its side effects with twenty four hour nausea, vomiting, hiccupping, diarrhea, and pneumonia.

One miserable morning, a not too smart doctor, walked into my hospital room and informed me that I was going to be suffering these side effects for the rest of my life.

You can well imagine my reaction to this nut case. I wanted to smash him in the mouth. Better yet, I wanted to throw him out the window.

Unfortunately, It took all of my strength just to lift my head up off the pillow so that I could react to him, "Like heck I will!" . Anyway, the good doctor got my meaning and immediately vanished from my room.

My radiologist visited me and just stood at the end of my bed starring at me. He just shook his head and said, " I have never seen anyone so sick from radiation during my entire practice of radiology." Then he walk out of my room.

The last day of my hospital stay, the main man Doctor, stopped by with his assistant nurse, and informed her that I was a "genuine hard case". He meant this as a compliment. I was thrilled that he said it, because this meant to me I didn't weenie out when things got really bad for me. How's that attitude for a great comeback?

"So kiss off Grim Reaper. Better luck next time!" Well, not really, but I am sure you get my drift?
