The Gospels are not only good news, they are undoubtedly the best news we will hear in our entire lifetimes. They characterize what our daily, weekly, and yearly existence is ultimately about. And moreover, the Gospels do not only provide the news of our eternal salvation (though that is rewarding and amazing in and of itself), they provide us with so much more.
The Gospels speak clearly of Jesus' life, not just his death. And in that lifetime, Jesus shows us the way to truly live. He shows us how to love and respect others above ourselves. He teaches us how to be humble and how to be a leader. He teaches us how to be strong and even how to be vulnerable. He commissions us to teach others about him so that everyone in the world can hear the Good News. He organizes apostles and disciples to help Him reach out and teach the masses because He cares so much for us. Indeed, this is good news.
The Gospels provide us with a better look at our Creator. They show us who He really is and give a poignant and amazing look at how much He truly cares for us. Enough to send His son to die for us, enough to end a fate of judgment for those who believe in Him. Enough to tell us of what is to come for our physical and eternal lifetimes. Enough to provide us with a way to be with Him forever. He sacrificed because He loves us. Yes, this really is good news.
The Gospels, most importantly, reveal to us the way to eternal salvation. They show us the life of a sinless man and portray to us the fulfilled promise of his resurrection. Each book gives a different but ultimately unifying look at our Savior and agrees fully on how we are to be saved. In the book of John, Jesus says, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." He make clear our paths and this is remarkable news.
Though there are trials throughout the four books (much like we face trials in our own lives), a much larger and greater design is revealed. Our spirits do not die with our physical bodies. They can move on to be with God forever. Our Savior is a real man who lived through very real, very trying ordeals. But He did it all for us. And, finally, His death on the cross paid for our sins and paved our way to eternity. His resurrection showed that He, indeed, was who the world was waiting for. He is the Lord and our Savior. This is good news.
