Yummy Drink Factory by Amaranth Games

3/5

Yummy Drink Factory is a puzzle type game in which you, the player, must memorize hot chocolate recipes and create drinks for the customers.

In the story mode, you are a teenage girl punished for her rudeness to an elderly barista. You are banished to a fairy tale land to run a hot chocolate stand for the locals. Your first day working is fairly easy as all your menu offers is plain Hot Chocolate. There are tutorials for each time you learn a new recipe. I suggest using that the first time if only to figure out how to actually serve the drinks to the customers. I admit, I went through the entire first day losing points because I couldn't work that out on my own. But the actual game is simple, provided you follow all the steps. For example, you must grind and brew more cocoa beans after every two cups of chocolate.

After you have served the required number of drinks, you can choose to end the day early or continue until the set closing time in the hopes of selling more drinks and earning more points. The next day starts with a new recipe to learn and the required ingredients will appear in your shop. Your customers will ask for the new drink as well as any previous recipes. The point is to remember what goes in each recipe so you can quickly make the drinks, but the recipe book is available if you forget.

There is also a Freedom option to the game where you start with a fully stocked shop so you can make all of the recipes. But the customers still only order plain Hot Chocolate for the first day.

Another feature is the ability to create your own recipes with the given ingredients. After you have dreamed up a few tasty concoctions (Steamed Swamp Ooze Vanilla or Iced Chocolate flavored with Slug Slime, anyone?) you can play the other Freedom level with only your recipes.

The graphics are cute and cartoonish, not too different from other games aimed at tween girls. The background music is constant, but not annoying. However, the sound can be muted without affecting the gameplay.

Yummy Drink Factory is not terribly original, but should appeal to girls from age 8 to about 12. Younger girls may get frustrated by the amount of steps needed to create the drinks and older girls would likely find it too repetitive to enjoy much. I would only recommend purchasing this game if you can't find a similar game on one of the many websites aimed at girls that feature free games.
