This is a very simple, old recipe that I found whilst going through my grandmothers cardboars box full of clippings. It has only a few ingrediences but every time I've taken it to a church function or a neighborhood get together, my pan always returns home empty.
Custard Apple Cake
You will need the following:
CRUST CUSTARD APPLES
2 cups flour 1 cup water 4-5 medium apples
1/2 cup oats 1 cup sugar they should be
1 cup brown sugar 3 teaspoon cornstarch thinly & evenly
3/4 cup soft butter 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla sliced & cored
You will need to lightly grease and flour a 9-inch cake or pie pan. Preheat your oven to 350 degree F.
In a bowel, cream soft butter and brown sugar, add oats. Once mixed well, slowly add flour a little at a time until it's all Incorporated. Line bottom and sides of baking pan, reserving 1 cup for topping.
In a small saucepan over low heat, put 1/2 the water and in the other 1/2 cup dissolve the cornstarch. Once you've done that then add it to the saucepan. The sugar can go in also. Cook custard until thick and at this point you add the vanilla. Place sliced apples into custard and coat well.
Pour apple custard mixture into crust lined baking pan. Sprinkle top with reserved crust. Bake 45 minutes to 1 hour at 350 degree F.
This dessert is wonderful served hot with vanilla or cinnamon ice cream or cold right out of the refrigerator.
