As a writer I know I am a vessel open for inspiration. I believe that I have been given a gift. A place within me that will never belong to anyone else. If I invite anyone into this place it is by special invitation only. This special place is a retreat for my soul. It lingers among the feelings in my heart. Every writer is carrying the knowledge of his or her own gift. It is then the writer that must struggle to set it free.
For me inspiration can arrive unexpectedly at my door. It leads me to be driven with the passion known to most writers. Waking thoughts in me until they fall into place and are ready to share with those who choose to read my words. They spill out onto paper as if having a mind of their own. They literally use my fingertips to create words and tell stories as if possessing me. Then if I am satisfied that all has been said. It becomes my work, part of me sharing all that I am or strive to be as a writer.
Our gift as writers should not be taken lightly. It is a power and with it comes a great responsibility. It is our charge as writers to express feelings about life. And then to share it with those that are hungry for our words. We as writers can pass on to others accumulated knowledge as well the wisdom of the ages. Our words can unravel the complex and make it whole again.
As writers we bring clarity to the confused, we add color where it is drab, and we can fill hearts with feelings when they are empty. We should recognize our gift as a writer, we should celebrate how it fills our lives. We need to be patient while waiting for inspiration. Then collect our thoughts. So I would encourage you to write what you are feeling and then set it free.
The power of our words can help unify the divided, give hope to the hopeless and tell others about the power of love. A writer with a careless hand can destroy others with the wrong stroke of a key or ink in a pen. A writer can influence others in positive ways or scatter misery with their wor ds. We as writers should carefully choose our words.
I know as a writer that I have a powerful tool in my possession. I pray that my inspirations bring to me words that enlighten a mind, bring comfort to a broken heart, and peace to those with a troubled soul.
