How to handle a one-night stand is always debatable. A one-night stand is originally a single night theatre performance (usually a guest group on tour), and today more commonly also a single sexual encounter between individuals, where neither individual has any immediate intention or expectation of establishing a longer-term sexual or romantic relationship. (wikipedia.com) However, there are a few unspoken ground rules for one-night stands:
1. Don't sleep over unless their is clear intent to take things further
2. Neither expect nor give a follow up phone call, it was after all a ONE-NIGHT STAND
5. After the deed is done, clean up and part ways
3. Don't sneak out, IF you sleep over, it's rude and implies that you weren't satisfied
4. Don't invite yourself to stay for brunch or "go out" afterwards, IF you do sleep over
6. ALWAYS use protection to aid in the prevention of STDS
Women typically perceive a one-night stand as being "used". Because of the levels of oxytocin in a womans body, she generally ends up depressed and feeling as if she were good for nothing but the sex. This is not the case with all women but is how many women feel after a one-night stand has occured. Hormones are raging during the heat of the moment and once they subside feelings of regret, embarassment, & humiliation can occur causing depression and the questioning of self-worth. Many women want to snuggle and make the most out of the situation, encouraging them that they are more than just a one-night stand. Women need some type of justification in this situation.
Men generally do not perceive a one-night stand the way that a woman does. Men typically do not have the need to cuddle, talk for hours on end, sleep, and then wake up to a woman who may want to have lunch before they part ways. Many men would rather the woman have taken off before they wake up. One-night stands normally involve alcohol and when intoxicated people lose their inhibitions, sometimes ending in a one-night stand with someone that a man (or woman for that matter) would never give a second glance when sober. This is where the term "coyote ugly" comes in to play.A man would rather gnaw his arm off than wake the unattractive woman lying on it snuggled up to him. Not typical of all men, but generally speaking this is the standard.
I think personally, having been in this situation myself, that if it is a "one-night stand" then it should be left as such. None of the cliche "friends with benefits" or "booty calls". What was intended
