The way you choose to feed your baby is completely up to you. The first thing you have to do is make sure you and your partner will be comfortable with the decision. You have to way the pros and cons for both the bottle and the breast.
Here is a simple list of facts favoring breastfeeding.
Just about everyone will agree that breast milk is the best thing for a baby, doctors, midwives and even the manufactures of infant formula. There is something that nature just does better than modern technology.
Breast milk is made for your baby. The composition of the milk changes all the time to meet your baby's needs, it's different in the morning that early evening, one months milk is again different that a four months milk and it is different for a full term baby than a premature baby. Breast milk is made up about a hundred ingredients thats not found in cow's milk and can't be made in a lab.
It is very convenient. The supply is always with you and at the perfect temperature.
There is no cost in breastfeeding your baby.
Breast milk is easier for an infant to digest. It is made for an infants sensitive and still developing digestive system, the proteins and fats are easily handled by the baby.
Breastfed babies are less likely to be colic, gassy and suffer from excessive spitting up.
By having less sodium and protein it puts less stress on babies kidneys.
Babies is hardly ever allergic to breast milk. The baby may be sensitive to something the mother has taken in.
Hardly ever a problem, if any, with constipation or diarrhea. Breast milk seems to reduce the risk digestive upset in two ways, it destroys a number of harmful microorganisms and by inhibiting their growth by encouraging the growth of the good ones.
Every time an infant takes to the breast it is getting a dose of antibodies to help their immunity to disease. They will normally have fewer colds, ear infections and other illness and usually recover at a faster pace with fewer complications.
Less of a chance for obesity.
More sucking satisfaction.
The babes body is better at absorbing calcium.
Lower risk of diaper rash.
There is a quicker recovery for the mom. It helps to bring your uterus back to the normal size much faster.
The list favoring breastfeeding keeps going but this article can only be so long.
Now for the list of facts favoring bottle feeding.
The baby is satisfied for a longer period of time. 3 to 4 hours or longer instead of 2 to 3 hours.
The mother can monitor the amount taken in by the baby.
