Decorating tips for small spaces

Living in small spaces has been a common dilemma to a lot of people. This is something in common for some students, teenagers, bachelors and bachelorettes who live by themselves on a studio type room. There are a lot of ways to decorate a small space to make it look bigger and make it more organized.

The first thing you have to think of is the color. Bright colors make the space look bigger and brighter. White and beige might be too common so you could try some shades of green, blue, yellow and pink should work to your advantage. Other ways to make the space bright is to have the perfect type of lighting. Pot lights are a good idea to put on the ceiling as dimmers to create the mood for the room.

Next stop, get rid of the clutter. Not everything has to be in one room. Get rid of the things that you do not need. Organize what you actually need. One way to save space is to use day beds. You can sleep on it at night and keep it close in the morning. You can also try using single beds that have organizers and drawers under.

Installing wall mounted artistic bookshelves is also a good idea. It saves space and helps you organize too. A lot of bookshelves available are very artistic. They have different shapes available: zigzag, c- shaped, square and spiral. By adding shelves you do not have to stick with the natural brownish colors. The modern bookshelves come in colors that match your wall paint. In addition to shelves, you can also hang pictures or small paintings on the wall. Some wall accents help to make the space seem bigger.

Small windows can draw attention to the size of the space. It's very hard to change the size of the window but there are also ways to make it appear bigger. You can make the window look double its original size by adding panels on both sides of the window.

Adding mirrors on a small space can give the illusion that the space is actually bigger than usual. The mirrors should be placed in the right places though or you might get freaked out by seeing your reflection everywhere in the room.

Last tip, Keep it simple. The best way to make a small space look bigger is too avoid too much clutter. Although being random is good at times you should plan ahead before you start decorating the room. Make sure you take the measurements of the room beforehand. Plan the colors you want for the paint. Make sure that the colors you choose coordinate with each other.
