It is often wise to create your own christening or baby announcements cards. Not only would it be more economical and cheap, but it is a whole lot more personalized. The basic ingredients of a hand-made card are creativity, imagination and resourcefulness. The possibilities are actually endless as long as you set your mind free and think out of the box. It is definitely a labor of love, but just think, it is worth it for your little darling.

You can play with different aspects of card making when you are doing it yourself. You have the option of what picture to add to it, the design of the card, the kind of card you would create. The possibilities are endless.

If you are trying to decide what photo or design you might incorporate to your card, here are a few ideas.

LITTLE HANDS AND FEET

Take picture of baby's hands and feet. You can have it solo or you can also take a picture of baby's hands and feet while mom or dad is holding it. What's good about taking a photo of it being held is that when your baby is old enough to have a look at the pictures he would see how tiny he is when he was born. MONTHS AGO AND NOW

Most babies have ultrasound picture (regardless whether its 3D or 2D). You can scan this and incorporate it with a picture of the baby within minutes after he was born.

WE ARE FAMILY

A picture of mom, dad, new baby and siblings (if there are some) can be a nice photo to add to your card. This would show the additional member of the family with everybody else (and it's always nice to look at a growing family together).

More than the photo you can also do away with traditional paper or cardboard cards and make a baby announcement or Christening invitation that can also double up as a souvenir.

BOTTLED UP

Have you ever heard of "Message In A Bottle"? This is a similar idea. Gather up a small see-through bottle (if you can get a small test tube that would fit just perfectly), cork to cover the bottle, paper and ribbon. There are two options to do your paper insert, either have it in a rolled scroll that has to be pulled out to read the message or a rolled up paper where the whole message can be read from the outside of the bottle without needing to open it. You can print out these messages by hand or use a computer.

Once you have rolled the paper, insert them into each bottle and cover it with the
