Aryah Kendall was 15 years old today, the turning point in a young woman's life, especially in the south in the 1900's. She stood tall in the mirror and looked at her boosoms and bottom, not bad for her age. Aryah was not the courting type, her parents knew she would be hard caught of any man. she was interested in one, no one knew the better. He was a little older and a family friend. Cassidy not the rank of prestige her family had, he and his family had been long time servants of the Kendall family and they had grown up together. Both were only children, and they spent hours playing and challenging each other like brother and sister. Cassidy was 17 years old and quite a handful of his own for his parents. He was strong willed and always looking for A fight. He was smart and wanted to go to school to become a writer, hopefully for the Daily Gazzette. Aryah admired his dreams and secretly imagined being married to him, waiting for his arrival for supper, and holding onto his baby with loving arms. Aryah? Aryah? Where are you? It was breakfast half an hour ago, get on down here so we can wish you happy Birthday hon. Aryah snapped out of her happy daydream and leaped down the stairs. Still in her bloomers and coverup to her Mothers dismay, she squealed with delight as she jumped into her daddy's arms and mama's kisses, admiring the array of goodies for her Birthday, she could not have been happier.
As the sunset on Aryah's day, the fireflies gathered for their evening dance, and crickets chirped, the stars shone brighter than ever, so it seemed. Aryah looked up at the stars and wondered just exactly what was her destiny? Mama? yes honey? what should I do with my life? Her father let out a fatherly snort and said "Aryah, you can be who ever you want to be". Mama looked agahst as she stared at the two of them. What are you talking about? don't fill this girl's head with silly dreams. Aryah will be a fine wife and mother, that is what all girls want and become. Aryah looked up just as a falling star flashed across the sky, Daddy saw it too, I don't know he said, we"ll see. Just then Cassidy rode up on his horse lickedy split and thrust out his hand, '' Come on Birthday girl how about a ride into the night? Woo Hoo you bet hollared Aryah! The night was brilliant as they rode up on the horizon, it seemed as if they owned the world, in their hearts they did.
