The question of where my inspriration comes from has conjured up many thoughts and images in my mind. I can visualize a need or strong desire to always be on the correct side of an argument. It's a vision of swimming through murky water while vaguely seeing a light which guides my journey. I am constantly reaching for the light.
When I began writing years ago, God was my light and inspiration. It was a realization that God wasn't just who or what I learned in church or Sunday school, but that he is a real part of my life. Until I wrote a poem about him, I had not realized how present I find him in my every-day life. Much of what I write today is often inspried by God. Even when I am inspired from another source, I often pray to God for guidance and befitting words to convey my thoughts and feelings. With God's presence during my writing, the words flow quite quickly and easily. When I am stuck, I realize I am on my own.
In the first days that followed September 11, I was starkly reminded of God and all that he has created for us. Never were the skies so blue, or the sun so bright, or the general beauty of the world so apparent. "His" presence and perfection are a constant inspiration to me, and many of my poems reflect what he has provided for us. Whoever once stated to "take time to smell the roses" must have at least once been in the presence of God. A real clue to me is when I can be reduced to tears by such beauty. It is then that I know He is standing beside me.
