As far back as I can remember, "The Joy of Cooking" has always been on my family's shelf. Unless we were cooking a highly specialised meal, the first cookbook my mother, my father, and myself picked up in order to find a recipes was 2The Joy of Cooking." For almost everything we cooked, "The Joy of Cooking" was there to make sure we cooked it right.

Last year, when I moved out of my home to live with my girlfriend, now wife, I found that our kitchen seemed a little empty without "The Joy of Cooking" there as my trusty kitchen helper. Thankfully that Christmas my family was given a copy of "The Joy of Cooking 75th Anniversary Edition." To say the least, I was thrilled. It was the like having an old friend move back to the town you live in. The old friend that had helped me through so many cooking issues had returned to my home, and with even more information than it had before!

With 500 new recipes, as well as the 4000 recipes that my family knows and loves, not to mention all the helpful information you can find in there in the Nutrition, Menus, Entertaining, Know your Ingredients, Cooking Techniques, and About sections. The informational sections are almost as helpful as having your own cooking teacher sitting with you in your own home. With helpful tip for presenting your food, health benefits of your food, tips that will help you pick which foods are the freshest and best quality for your meal, even a seasoned chef can learn something from "The Joy of Cooking 75th Anniversary Edition."

If you are wanting to learn how to cook, or if you are interested in making just a simple stew, or a pizza, or really just about every sort of everyday cooking, this cookbook is for you. Also if you are interested in cooking fancy things like Glazed Roast Duckling, or Sukiyaki, or Veal Francese, or whatever sort of fancy meal you want, this book is for you. From gourmet cooking, to basic baking, to everyday cooking, this book has it all.

As long as you don't mind a bit of reading about your ingredients, this book lays out all the information even the newest cooks would need in order to make whatever you want to make. I know, because this book is the book I learned to cook with, and twenty years later here I am as a chef at a nice restaurant, with no formal training, only the training I have given myself with the help of this cookbook. Even though I cook for a living, I cook for fun, and I cook all day almost every day, I still find many thing I need a little extra help with, and I always find myself turning back to "The Joy of Cooking."

In short, this cookbook, in my opinion, is a must for any kitchen. It is far more than just another cookbook, it is a Cook-Teaching Book. This book has all the information that a novice cook, like my wife, all the way up to a professional chef, like myself, could ever want or need to make a wonderful meal, no matter what the occasion is. So , if you find yourself in need of a recipe, for any reason, any occasion, for any type of food, you can find what you want in this book. This book is really the only cookbook that a house hold kitchen really needs. I know it is the one I turn to the most.
