Craft shops have thousands of glue and iron on patches and stickers, which cover just about any subject you can think of. These are the answer to how to make your own unique notebook. In this article, you will find ideas for personalizing a notebook and directions for how to make a notebook cover of both paper and fabric.
*Ideas For Decorating A Fabric Notebook Cover
Denim
Make the cover of denim and stitch on a back blue jeans pocket for holding a cell phone, index cards, photos or notes. Add a few denim belt loops to hold a ruler. Cut around the zipper in some old jeans and sew it to the cover for holding change.
Do decorative stitching around the front edge with colorful thread and create a few mended tears and patches while you're at it. Add some colorful patches from the hippie days, such as flowers and peace signs and you'll have a one of a kind, unique notebook.
Other Fabric
Choose one of your school colors and do a Team Spirit cover with iron on megaphones, sports equipment, pom-poms, mascots and phrases like, Go Team!
If you're a NASCAR fan, choose a black and white checkered fabric for NASCAR emblems and iron-on patches.
For Science classes use a deep blue fabric and applique planets, constellations, comets and stars. You could also create an under water scene with iron on patches of fish and other underwater life. Or use a light fabric and with fabric pens, draw different plants and animals.
Holiday decorations on notebooks are fun to create. Using green fabric, sew, glue or iron on bells, stars, Christmas trees, ribbons and candy canes. Choose the patches with glitter woven into the fabric for a real festive touch. Or sew a green tree on a solid background and decorate it with glue on gems and tiny chains for garland.
*Ideas For Decorating A Paper Notebook Cover
For History class make the cover from a map or glue on clip art of famous historical figures such as presidents, generals and politicians.
For holidays, use gift-wrap or draw and color a scene such as an American flag on Memorial Day, a fireplace and Christmas tree at Christmas and cupids, hearts and arrows on Valentine's Day.
For music or band class, write the words to your favorite song and add large musical notes or use stickers of the various instruments to decorate the cover.
If there isn't a special occasion, use wallpaper or the funny papers or glued on photo-pockets for pictures of you and friends. Glue a mat over a photo. Make a collage of your favorite things, classmates, family or animals.
