John's Island (or Johns Island, like some people prefer to write it), is an island that belongs to the many islands along the coast of South Carolina, and is one of the six areas that belong to the city of Charleston.

This island has a lot to offer if you are a nature fan (mind you, if you are not, you'll still have lots to do!). One of the main attractions is the Angel Oak tree. This beauty is one of the oldest trees in the whole world! It's over 1,400 years old and still going strong, believe it or not! The reason why this 65-feet high old oak was named Angel was because of the Angel family, who owned the land where the tree rests.

Are you into farms and veggies? Then there's lots for you to see in John's Island as well. From May to October you can find delicious jams and in-season fruits and vegetables in Joseph Fields Farm. But don't worry if you go to the island from November to April because you can find fruits, vegetables and jams as well in the year-round Stono Farm Market. And they also have a bakery, shrimp and meals to go!

There is yet another farm in the area, Legare Farm, which is also open all year round, Mondays through Saturdays. This family owned and operated farm has lots to offer: a nursery, pickles, jellies, sod, jams, seasonal vegetables, beef free of atibiotics and hormones, and much, much more! You will also find family oriented activities, making this place perfect for a family vacation. If you make it to John's Island in October, don't miss this farm's annual " Amazin' Mazein Maize" (a corn maze) and Pumpkin Patch.

If you are a horse lover don't miss the Mullet Hall Equestrian Center at Johns Island County Park, where you'll find horse shows, festivals, events and exhibits. This place is also great for trail riding; there are 20 miles of trails through Southern pines, oaks, open meadows and farm fields. It sounds like a dream, doesn't it?

As if all of these activities weren't enough, there's also the best kept secret of John's Island and the whole of Carolina: the Bohicket Marina & Yacht Club. This is where you want to come if your goal is to relax and enjoy surrounding natural beauty. But this is not all, there are also unique shops and restaurants. You can also go on a charter boat and explore the local waterways with your family, and then take the excursions they offer in sport fishing, sunset cruises and dolphin watching!.

John's Island, which is close to downtown Charleston and Edisto Beach, is packed with fun activities for all the members of the family. So, if you are planning a family trip, this is definitely the place to go.
