Tuition Reimbursement and The Effects of Adult Learning
Tuition reimbursement is a program designed to provide financial assistance for the direct cost of education and/or training at an accredited institution. Adult learning is an essential part of a efficiently ran office or business as well as contributing to ones personal accomplishments. Tuition reimbursement and adult learning, through much research, tends to contribute to the increase of productivity, lowering the intention to turnover, and tax advantages. Employees often view health and retirement benefits as a primary consideration. However, with a vastly growing era of technology, tuition reimbursement seems to be another important benefit offered by employers. (Tinsley, S 2001)
Adult learning will increase productivity when employees are given the proper training and skills needed to perform the duties given to them. The workplace and workforce continue to change rapidly. (Tinsley, S 2001) Thus, to keep pace, employees must continually acquire new skills including up to date technology, global competition, and company downsizing. Confronting the challenges head-on clearly creates a more competent workforce and continually increased profits and productivity. (Tinsley 2001) Agreeing that adult education is essential to remaining competitive and increasing profits; learning is a lifelong activity in today's age of technology. With this said, the employee feels a sense of accomplishment. Hence, the employee's goals become higher and rise to another level creating recognition for themselves.
Tuition reimbursement and an allotted time for adult learning creates, at some sort , a sense of loyalty from within an employee to stay with the company. Tuition is much like a shoelace tyeing together self-improvement and a way to boost productivity through a better educated workforce. (Marchitto, A 2006) Thus, lowering turnover rates and increasing retention. Developing loyalty in a cut-throat corporate landscape has been foreseen by creating a program to help cover the cost of the steadily climbing increase of tuition fees. (Marchitto 2006) Retention is a way of lower the amount of money spent on training hours of new employees. In return the company is able to increase profits and decrease downtime.
Tuition reimbursement is a growing trend with most companies, corporate companies being on top of the list, for the tax-advantage status. The use of benefits as a recruiting device is prevalent
