understanding of their own false perceptions and prejudices.
Pride and Prejudice is a superbly written romantic novel that will leave you in love with all its characters...... and a strong yearning to meet Mr. Darcy in person.
~~Jane Eyre By Charlotte Bronte~~
"How can you be so stupid? How can you be so cruel? Just because I'm poor and plain, I'm not without feelings." Jane Eyre
The novel is a first-person narrative of a small, passionate and intelligent English orphan of average looks. The novel takes us through tumultuous phases in her life. It begins with her childhood in her aunt's house where she is neglected and abused by her relatives. A kind doctor places her in Lowood Academy, where she acquires friends but also suffers hunger, loss and sorrow. The next phase sees her in Thornfield Manor where she takes up the position of a governess to a young girl. Here she falls in love with her employer, the brooding Edward Rochester. His cruel deception makes her leave him and take up residence with the Rivers family where her dispassionate clergyman-cousin St John Rivers proposes to her. The final phase sees her happily married to a blind Mr. Rochester.
I love this book because of Jane Eyre's fighting spirit and determination. She could never be brow beaten, frightened or tempted to do the wrong thing. She even sacrificed her love for a married Mr. Rochester rather than live in sin with him. She refused St. John because she knew she did not love him and marriage without love did not appeal to her. Later on when Rochester's mad first wife dies, Jane accepts him without hesitation although he is blind and partially crippled. Her innate strength made her defeat temptation and her decisions were based on her good moral sense rather than personal desires.
~~The Count of Monte Cristo By Alexandre Dumas~~
"Those born to wealth, and who have the means of gratifying every wish ... know not what is the real happiness of life: just as those who have been tossed on the stormy waters of the ocean on a few frail planks can alone estimate the value of a clear and serene sky."
The Count of Monte Cristo is a popular historical adventure novel by the French author. It is the story of a dashing young man Edmond Dantes whose good fortunes, both professional and personal, make other people jealous enough to plot his downfall. He is falsely framed for treason and imprisoned and his beloved fiancee Mercedes marries his enemy. In prison, he meets an Italian priest, Abbe Faria who tells him
