How to win with Auto Insurance

Never lie to obtain insurance, however tempting that might be. A contract
of insurance is founded on the veracity of your statements, and if false statements are detected, you will be left without cover, and personally liable for any other third party injuries and claims, that could possibly bankrupt you, and leave you with a criminal record.

If you are lucky enough to have a good driving record, head straight for your Direct Agent and cut out the middleman. Always consider the cost of putting your vehicle into the shop for minor repairs, to preserve your valued 'no claims' bonus. This is one area where it pays to shop around, so get on-line and get comparisons, at least three, preferably more. Be sure to give all the insurance companies the same information.

Take advantage of on-line discounts, and to save money only include the named drivers you absolutely need. It is worth considering a double whammy by putting your house and car with the same insurer. Take 'defensive driver' classes to earn additional savings. For new drivers with a score of on 3.0 on their GPA, a 25% discount is possible, and given the insurers perceptions of young male drivers, this is one way to offset this. Being a member of a club or group can earn you extra discount, check it out. Staying with your insurer at renewal time can result in a good saving too, up to 10%. Some companies will favour you on the basis of the vehicle safety, e.g. airbags, side impact bars etc, makes sense doesn't it?
Do you have kids in college, maybe out of state? If they are living over a
100 miles away then it could mean a saving of 40%. If you will retire soon, notify your insurer, get yourself a break.

Finally, don't deal with a backstreet company, check the financial history of the company you have found, consult a finacial guide or website,to make sure they have the right track record too. The Department of Insurance for your State will also be able to advise if a company has experienced high levels of consumer complaints. Major TV campaigns are incredibly expensive, and are one indication that the company has some financial support.
