HOW TO STUDY FOR DISTANCE LEARNING COURSES
Online schooling is different and similar to traditional schooling. Traditional schooling means having to travel distances to go to class; maybe three times a week or more.
The downside to this, is many people are going back to school and they have families and less time to sit in class. This also means that papers, homework, and projects are due much sooner.
Online courses also allow the freedom to study from home. The upside to this is that there is flexibility in when you want to study, and there are longer due dates for course assignments. The downside: lots of reading, and more communication needed for added explanations.
It does not matter what you are studying or where you are studying, the important thing to consider is prioritizing to make life easier while studying online. Yes, online assignments are usually due in a week rather than two days, but that means you are reading more.
So how does one study multiple courses online?
Here are some tips:
1) Decide which class is least intense and more intense. For some, the intense online course may be Accounting, for others it may be English Literature. After deciding which course is more intense, make that the course to put more time into.
2) During the week, it is also important to keep in contact with the professors via email and chat with classmates on the discussion boards that are set in place for communicating. People are usually very polite and friendly in these environments and love to answer questions.
3) Create a plan of what day to study which subject. Here's a sample of what a typical week Monday through Friday would look like for someone who prioritizes their classes:
Accounting(more intense) (Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday)
Intro to Psychology(less intense)(Only Wednesdays)
Other course(Fridays)
Some courses require much more reading than others, so you'd want to devote more time to those. For instance if you are taking an accelerated eight week course, which is offered through most colleges traditionally and online, the pace will be much faster and more heavily concentrated in reading. So, for Accounting, you may have to devote three days to reading and working on material while spending the next two days on your less intense subject.
Another tip is that most Admissions Counselors would, suggest only taking one course online your first semester if it is your first time engaging in distance learning, just so you'd get the "feel of it". Remember, you can still have the weekends as your rest days if you follow your own plan rubric or you just may have to use the weekend to finish up some reading and a project.
Prioritize to finalize your career goals!
