the multi-colored palette by Neutrogena: Healthy Skin Blends Natural Radiance Bronzer ($12.79).
And on that note, anything you apply to your skin should be non-comedogenic (won't block the pores) and oil-free. Warmer weather inspires perspiration, which in turn heightens the chance of developing blemishes. Aside from clear skin, keep sun protection in mind and try to find products that offer some SPF protection. It's always preferable not to deal with the extra layer of sunscreen.
One tip not to miss, even if you're not wearing makeup: carry oil-absorbing sheets with you at all times to avoid the dreaded shiny-face-syndrome. Try Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets (around $5).
Rather than wait the morning before a summer job interview or a hot date with your mailman, bust out that makeup and play around! You can collect a billion ideas from magazines, but you've got to test run it on your face to see how compatible those ideas are with your face. Always double check that look in harsh daylight. Sometimes the soft yellow light in your bathroom is far too kind.
At night you can be a bit more dramatic. A darker outline on the eye, a richer shade of violet, or lipstick in place of lip gloss will fly. Keep it fresh and light despite this allowance. Even neon can be done right, if you don't overdo it. The same proportional rules apply - pick a feature and accentuate, but don't highlight every inch of your face with colors and creams. Remember that your needlessly dramatic makeup might look great around the bonfire... but when your friend starts snapping photos you'll be on their blog in a week, looking like bozo the clown.
Need some new summer colors for those doe eyes of yours? Try Calvin Klein Tempting Duo Eyeshadow ($22), Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow ($54), Bare Escentuals Ponder Four Piece Collection ($42), or Urban Ammo Eye Palette & Eyeshadow Primer Potion Set ($39). If you're feeling frugal, you can look to these palettes for ideas and find similar colors for less in your drugstore.
In the days of HDTV and the constant threat of showing up on someone's blog, we must be more cautious than ever with our beauty upkeep. Summer might be lazy, but don't let your guard down! If you find yourself flustered by maintaining your elegance under the blazing sun, you can get a consultation at your local Sephora or department store makeup counter.
