Auto insurance is based around the fact that we normal people are prone to having accidents.

By charging us an arm and a leg for the privilege they ensure that should we lose an arm or a leg whilst driving the other guy will pay.
Provided of course that the other driver has paid his insurance!

Getting the best cover these days is a waking nightmare there are so many companies out there convinced that they can provide cover cheaper than everyone else.

Even companies not known for their expertise in this field (like banks, butchers and supermarkets) claim to be able to insure you for less than the other guy.
With all this claim and counter claim it is getting harder to decide which one to choose.

As always with legal documents the devil is in the detail, the detail being the small print.

Getting quotes for insurance is easy, just type in Auto insurance to the World Wide Web and thousands will appear; yet getting the right quote is not so easy.
Some companies will offer unrestricted mileage. Some will offer discounts for security measures I know of some who discount for multiple drivers (as long as one of them is female)

So before going for a quote or attempting on-line sites decide exactly what it is you require from your Auto insurance and stick to it.
Don't be pressured into taking out cover for something you don't need.
If your car is worth $5000 then why insure it for $500,000?
If you only drive 10,000 miles a year why pay for 50,000?
You get the point!

I recently renewed my Auto insurance via a web site telling them everything I could think of that I needed,
I could have got an even cheaper quote if my car was garaged over night, had a factory immobiliser fitted or indeed if it had glass in all the windows.
Fitting a crook-lock was worth less than ten percent of the cost of buying one so I declined.

One worthwhile point I did find out is that not every internet source is the cheapest, having established my wants needs and hopes of the type of insurance they may supply I tried to purchase on-line only to find they did not take debit cards;
Only credit;
Undeterred I rang the number quoted at the bottom of the page and after negotiating the language barrier with a very well informed representative in India I was quoted and excepted a price ten per cent lower than on- line.
I am unsure if this is normal but I suggest you try it out once or twice;
Especially if it is a toll free call; get your monies worth out of them they take enough as it is.

Another worthwhile tip is to add another driver.
Yes I know it sounds stupid but I don't make the rules.
The added driver (in my case) though must be female and over twenty five, as they are always the safest drivers statistically wherever in the world you may stay they will always have a lower quote than men.

Adding them to your policy whether they get the chance to drive or not is a cost cutting exercise I can recommend, especially if you happen to be married to them and you attend lots of parties, you guys know where I'm coming from.

So to summarise check; check and check again to ensure the cheque you write is not too big.
