Rap is outrageous, which is great for profits and not so great for kids growing up in a moral vacuum, who are developing their sense of baseline values for their lives from these "cool" influences.
It's almost a cliche now that rappers and other celebrities shrug off the label of "role model." They do what they do, try to make it look cool, market it to young people, and yet deny all responsibility of being a role model; but in reality, the position of role model isn't something that's chosen or denied, it's something that one has conferred upon oneself.
When rappers talk about abusing women, drinking, robbing, doing drugs, and living from party to party, these images get hyped in the media, and kids begin to see them as mainstream. They become reasons for kids not to feel so bad about living that kind of life, because that kind of behavior seems to have society's approval.
So the bottom line is that rap is outrageous enough to make lots of money, and too outrageous for our younger generation to be exposed to. But the real danger comes in when rap ceases to be viewed as outrageous, and becomes instead an alternative lifestyle or mere entertainment.
