The Pain of Love
The pain of love is in my heart
And fills my very being.
Each day I wonder how I'll live
Unless I go on seeing,
Your gentle smile and tender gaze
As you softly touch my face
When love wells up within my heart
To fill the empty space.
It's then I know just what I want
To finish out my life,
To walk beside you day by day
With us as man and wife.
I want long walks and quiet talks
And sitting by a fire,
A growing love between us both
Of which we'll never tire.
I feel your closeness even now
In just my thoughts of you
Our bodies lying side by side
And then we're one not two.
We'll weave the threads of you and me
To form a cloth quite strong,
To cover us both and shield out love
From all in life that's wrong.
Then the cold wind of reality hits my heart
And I can see
The pain of love is truth itself there isn't us
There's you and me.
It's then I know it's all a dream
A lovely fantasy,
For you belong to someone else
And it can never be.
